Designed by <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Patrick_Keely\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Patrick C. Keely<\/a>, the 1869 church building underwent a major expansion that was completed in 1894, when Saint Joseph Parish Church became consecrated as Saint Joseph Cathedral. Following the movement popular after the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Second_Vatican_Council\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Second Vatican Council<\/a>, the high altar, Stations of the Cross, and many other decorations were removed in 1968.
